NAME: Miriam Landolt
POSITION: Head of business development, International marketing
YEARS IN SKYDIVING: 2
WHY I STARTED:
When I first jumped, I did it with my 12 year old daughter. She was one of the youngest ever jumping out of 15,000 feet in Australia. Ever since then it is a tradition for all our children to be allowed to jump out of the plane at 12 and so far our two oldest children have already jumped a couple of times and love it. And so it becomes the initiation ritual for some of their friends to jump on the 12 birthday!
I was amazed what it did for my children and their self-esteem having the guts to jump out 15000 feett above sea level – freefalling through the air at more than 200km an hour. Reflected well, it becomes a very important metaphor for life. You can actually do it, overcome your fear, dive into it, out into the unknown sphere and it becomes an incredible experience you can do and grow with it.
As my husband and I both loved adventures sports, and we both have a background in coaching and the business development industry and had knowledge about the international tourism market, we became friends with the skydivers and business partners.
MOST MEMORABLE JUMP:
My first jump.
Seeing the earth curve and soaring through the air above the divine coastline of the north coast was an unforgettable experience.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IN THE FUTURE OF SKYDIVING:
I’d like to see skydiving to be part of everybody’s bucket list as it is a very moving experience to see the earth from above in the middle of the elements, rather than in a plane. And it is an amazing metaphor and part of personal skill development to face and overcome your fears and gather power to move beyond it.
